What are Vape Tanks?
Vape tanks are the part of your e-cigarette or mod that holds your e-liquid. The tank is usually on top of the battery and has a coil inside that connects to the battery. The coil has wicking inside that becomes saturated with your e-liquid and when the vape is in use, the coil heats up the liquid turning it into vapour you inhale through to the tank’s mouthpiece.
Types of Tanks
Vape tanks come in all shapes and sizes, but most fall into two categories: Sub Ohm and Mouth-to-Lung.
- Sub Ohm Vape Tanks: Also called direct-to-lung (DTL) tanks, sub ohm vape tanks have a lower resistance to allow for more airflow. They heat up faster and produce bigger, warmer clouds of vapour. They are often the easiest tanks to use, fill, and adjust.
- Mouth-to-Lung Vape Tanks: Mouth-to-Lung, or MTL tanks have higher resistance and a more restricted airflow, giving you a cooler, less intense vapour. They have a bottom coil so you have to turn the tank upside down to change the coil or fill it with e-liquid.
Cleaning Vape Tanks
You must regularly clean your vape and its components to ensure safety and performance. How to clean your tank will depend on its style, so you should always check any manuals for specific instructions.
There are a few universals when it comes to cleaning your tank:
- Rinse your tank to prevent any build up of e-liquid along with letting it dry for 24 hours
- Remove and separate all the components like the mouthpiece and coil to rinse separately (then allowing them to fully dry)
- If your top cap isn’t removable, you will have to clean the tank and cap as a whole
