MTL vaping with a tighter draw and higher nicotine level gives a tantalising throat hit that recent ex-smokers find helps them make the switch. Many vape users also claim that MTL vaping gives them better overall flavour from their vapour, possibly because the vapour stays on the tongue longer than with DTL vaping. Although just as many DTL vapers will tell you that their clouds have more concentrated flavour!
Those who prefer more discreet clouds and vaping on the go, MTL vaping doesn’t produce big clouds. For cloud chasers, DTL vaping gives you bigger, more intense vapour than the tighter draw of MTL vaping does. Some devices support both DTL and MTL vaping by having a feature called adjustable airflow. If you want an MTL vaping experience, ensure that the airflow is at least partially restricted. When you inhale, hold the vapour in your mouth for a few beats then inhale it into your lungs. Leaving the airflow open will give you an airier, DTL vape. Inhale slowly and take the vapour right into your lungs like how you do when you breathe.
MTL vs DTL E-liquids and Coils
Now that you know how to DTL and MTL vape, you have to make sure you’re using the right type of e-liquid for your vaping style. Look for vape juices with a higher PG (propylene glycol) ratio in it, or one with at least a 50:50 PG VG ratio. Nic salts are also highly suited for MTL vaping and an added benefit is that you get a faster, smoother hit of nicotine with nic salts. Stronger nicotine levels are better suited to MTL vaping.
Nic salts aren’t recommended for DTL vaping. Instead, look for e-liquids with a higher ratio of VG (vegetable glycerine). Higher VG e-liquids give you smoother vapour and big, delicious clouds. A good ratio to use is 70:30 VG PG. Since DTL vaping usually involves more power and wattage, you can get away with using e-liquids with lower nicotine levels. Another component you’ll have to consider with DTL and MTL vaping is the coil. Mouth to Lung vaping produces less vapour so you need to use coils with a higher resistance (at least 1.0ohm). Direct to Lung vaping is often referred to as sub ohm vaping because you need to use a lower resistance coil (below 1.0ohm).
